So a friend told me there was a gathering in Boston Common a few miles away. I didn't leave my house until almost 2AM so I was a bit late but I stuck around until the police got the crowd to disperse. I only had my on camera flash and there is NO LIGHT there so I did what I could.

At one point, Apple got it certified as UNIX, so OS X is a UNIX platform, not just UNIX-like. Linux is probably fairly close to being able to be UNIX certified as well, but there is a money outlay that nobody wants to spend. To top it off, UNIX certification means zilch to the Linux community, so why would anyone pay to have it certified? I'm not even sure how Apple benefitted from their certification.
I believe Apple got the certification because they were calling themselves UNIX prior to getting the certification and it had to do with legalities. I do know, at least at the time, it ONLY applied to Leopard running on Intel machines because of how the certification works.
It's paper and nothing more. Whenever some Mac weenie is like "we're REAL UNIX unlike Linux" I know I can safely just slap him. Certification means very little. Actual POSIX compliance�among other things�is what matters.

Actually apple often doesn't directly post changelogs for devs either. It's more a list of where they want you to test with many releases. They're kind of famous for that...

Battery life is much better with this update. I stream Sirius radio all day and it lasts longer now. Haters gotta hate.

I was about to correct your first post (politely) by saying that you can use AFP with AppleTalk disabled.
Good call... I initially thought you did have to have AppleTalk enabled for AFP to work, and actually have always had AT enabled. I guess I can turn it off now :)

sure. apple has no problem giving a refund, as they keep their 30% that the developer now has to pay. that's a cool $300 that apple just ripped off from the developer all to protect their mistake and their idiot customers.

Hard to believe everybody just stood around and let those girls assault him like that. As far as the seizure....that looks fake as all get out. I have seen a person have a seizure and it was no way near that violent.

I bought a round trip ticket for my mother to come out here for a two week visit. It was very spur of the moment, and I'm glad she agreed to it.

There is a difference between sales and market share. Without a doubt, part of the appeal of android is cost - it's just cheaper to buy. However, it's not as simple as you suggest
Some people buy it so they can have a larger screen, some because they want a keyboard, some because they have specific hardware needs (e.g. The US Army), some because they do not want to live under of the heel of Steve Jobs twisted moral code. I could go on, but it's become the proverbial dead horse. Sure, Android has pitfalls in that it can run almost anything, but I would rather have the freedom to make a bad app choice than to live in the walled garden that iOS is becoming.
In short, the freedom to make choices, even bad ones, is superior to being spoon fed like a baby as Apple tends to do.
Then too each their own. Obviously, you don't care for Apple's way of doing it and we could argue the pluses and minuses, but I don't think Apple's way is the wrong way. It's different and seems to be working fairly well too given they are company to beat in many categories right now. And as much as you love all the freedom with the Android based phones, I also think that is one of their problems. But again, we could debate forever.
Either way, you consistently feel your point of view is the only point of view. I don't feel "spoon fed like a baby" by using the iPhone. It does everything I want a smart phone to do plus some and there seems to be a ton of consumers out there that agree.

Quite a few laptops ship with media-software and webcams. Dunno bout remotes though.
Remotes are pretty common too, though it's usually an extra option unless the media version of XP is installed. I can remember looking at a Sony laptop geared towards being a media center with a remote back when the centrino platform first came out and skipping that option when I bought a Dell at the same time. The last sound card I bought also came with one. You're right, nothing innovative there.
I think Apple is starting to slide in this department, though you certainly can't argue with the results in terms of profit. Products are still nice (as I type this on a MBP and dream about the rumored upcoming 8 core MP) but nothing that I look at and think "Wow nobody else is doing this!". I think the last time I thought that was when they released the Airport Express. I'm looking forward to seeing what they will do with a media center box, maybe they will knock my socks off again some day.

i've got an ATVclassic and the the ATV2. i don't need a $2000 apple cinema display. what i do need/want is an apple double din car stereo with built in wifi, 3g, touchscreen, ipod and maps. i want to pull up in my driveway every night and be able to wirelessly sync songs from my mac to my car's stereo. i want 3g for pandora or maybe mobileme (if that cloud storage thing ever comes to fruition). i want more mobile not stagnant, sit-in-front-of-the tv crap.
honestly, since getting the ATV a few years ago, i watch tv less. i listen to more music streamed through my entire house. if i sit down in front of the television its almost always for the purpose of watching a movie. i love the mobility of apple products now and i always have my mac for a base station to come back to to do work.

Sure we are all making jokes about Sheen and his antics. Lets not forget 2 other notable comedians that were huge drug users that showed warning signs, Chris Farley and John Belushi. Sheen is in huge denial and will most likely kill himself at some point.
It's really just sad that he's doing this, and that nobody is trying to stop him, from self destructing. Regardless of what he says or does and how comical all of this may seem to the whole world it's really a terrible thing to watch.
He's completely lost his mind and his kids now. The longer he keeps this up the more he may loose. If this was your best friend or a good family member you would try to stop them from doing this and get them the help they need.
Anyone else who did something like this would end up in jail, or a mental ward and would never work again. He's put many people out of work, and he thinks that he deserves to get paid for all the episodes he's not going to make? His justifications for wanting money are obviously for his expensive drug habit, and lifestyle.
We've lost many good actors and entertainers to drugs and to overindulgence. Not to mention this is what we're bombarded with on a daily basis in music videos, and pop TV. This is the end result of that party lifestyle. It's sad to see, and it's just not funny. I feel really bad for him.
It would be nice if his family would round him up and get him some help before something truly terrible happens.
