I run hte BOINC manager on my pismo pretty much all the time. It's slow, but that doesnt bother me
Same here. I use BOINC Menubar (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/menubar.php), which divides CPU time between whichever ones you use. I run SETI@home, Predictor@home (http://predictor.scripps.edu/), and Einstein@home (http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/). That's in addition to using the Electric Sheep screensaver.
So don't limit yourself to just one distributed computing project, use BOINC (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/index.php)!

it happened on my 13" MBP when using it with and HDTV with a HDMI-MiniDP adapter. when that happens i usually try shift control eject to put the display in 'sleep' and wake it back up without putting the machine to sleep and that helps too atleast in my situation. hopefully might be another alternative tip that works.

Lee, I'm sorry... but the definition of 'sensational' is not the same as 'anything Lee disagrees with'. Would you call the thread started today by rdowns called "Mike Huckabee... and American Dick" sensational? How about the one called "Wisconsin Public workers stand up to Republicans." These people may not have split the atom or cured cancer, but they made a whole lot of people happy over the years. To me, that's a very worthwhile contribution and is a life well spent. The show was mainly before my time, so I didn't even get much out of it personally, but I still appreciate all the happiness he brought to people in the world.

I have problems with Mail after updating but everything else seems fine. It is a pain in the rear though. Mail icon bounces for ages in the dock before opening. Curiously enough though it opens first time on our network at work.

I filed a bug report and was informed AirDrop is still be worked out on various Broadcom AirPort Extreme WiFi cards. Developer Preview 2 now lists AirDrop on both our Mac's but I only got it working once, now neither system notices the other.
All part of the beta fun (although I wish Apple would release more beta's and not "Developer Previews" as they did with previous OS X releases)

Seriously, through, its impossible to say because everyone is different. I know people who can put in 1 to 2 hours and pick up a new programming language in a snap, and I know others who have spent endless hours trying to just get their head around the basics.
Your best bet is to jump in and find out if you like the challenges (because there are plenty to work through!) or not.

1: ATT will not unlock your iphone no matter what
2: Foreign carriers are not allowed to unlock my ATT iPhone
3: I'm better off buying a another phone when I go to Europethat seems to be the gist. Hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I'm heading on sabbatical in the UK soon. I have an old JB iphone 3 but would rather use my iphone 4 of course.

If its sealed in a brand new retail box, then its new. Refurbs ship in brown boxes, and I'm not even sure if they ever sold refurb iPhones, yet alone in new box.

The biggest issues I have found with these laptops; 1.) The well documented video chip issue. Killed both of my 900's. The second is the pathetic plastics that line the case. But I digress, first things first the hard drive is indeed a pretty easy fix. You will need to get your hands on an ide hd, which are cheap as all get out. Look to www.newegg.com, www.computergeeks.com or whatever place you buy from. Second you will need the take-apart guide. Being that if you take your iBook into any MacStore they will laugh at you and take pity on a perfectly good mac that is not on par with a very fickle community.

That is the guide for step-by-step. Not the easiest, but not all that hard, I would suggested using a digital camera to take pics along the way. And a handy tool is an egg carton to separate out the various screws.

Here's hoping Apple gets off their money-grubbing a$$es and strips away the bloat from iTunes. it's an absolutely horrible platform which they are using for anything and everything. Bad move Apple. It's like Apple is consulting with Ballmer on how NOT to innovate with iTunes.

Two of the places I frequently visit do not have wi-fi available. The only access is via plugging into a router with a Cat 5 cable. Works quite well with my laptop, which has a network receptacle.
But what do you do if you want to connect with your iPad? There's no 3G "out there.
There doesn't seem to be a network adapter that plugs into the iPad's port...or is there?

It is my understanding that the jailbreak from Comex used proprietary Apple code that would have landed him in legal trouble if it was released to the public. This hole was patched in iOS 4.3.1. While I haven't heard any news about others working on the jailbreak, I'm sure that there is work being done.
