hmm interesting. seems a bit funny how he speaks highly of Apple, compares both their visions, yet declines anything going on. Although, I guess its a way to win people over. Complement someone else in the hope they like you for it.

There's a conversion tool at this site called WMA to MP3 converter which will do the task, but I believe that WinAMP can do this as well, along with WMP9 itselt, I think.

Well, it looks like there will be alot of new features and devices soon from apple.
lets hope apple keeps up the good work, advancements in technology, software and hardware will continue making users lifes easier.
things like smart device/cell phones, itv media center hubs (also HDTV including Blu-Ray), continuing development of more software and making apple an all media type system where all aspects can work seamlessly.
looking forward to the new stuff apple comes with.
I know this is off track, but if companies like Apple with the delivery of video content via the web and the cable and dish networks offering a wider array of on demand offereings, the day of hard media (DVD, Blue Ray, DVD-HD) are coming to an end. I for one have hundreds of DVDs, but haven't bought one in months, because either I see the movie in the Theater (the ulitimate experience) or I catch it in HD from cable. My DVDs are just taking up space in my house.
Sony and others can do what they want to try to force upon us another technology, but just like DVD-Audio, they're all doomed to fail.
I now return you to normally scheduled discussion.

Actually, the big display prices *must* come down soon, because regular 32" tv can be bought for 500 euros nowadays. A display which has HDMI input, which means it can be connected to a DVI computer card rather easily.
Now I don't mean to say that a regular 32" TV that costs 500 would compete with a 30" ACD in terms of colour accuracy or top resolution, but I'm saying if someone wants a big display it can be done for peanuts. And as people discover this they're not going to buy "overpriced" computer displays that are meant for one purpose only.
Yeh sure, if you want a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 on your 50" tv. Sweet. You show me any TV that does 2500x1600.

The Corrupt Font message could be because there's ...er... a corrupt font?
Given that the font name appears to be a double-byte format, chances are that it is one of the OSX Asian fonts. Assuming this is an English operating system and you don't need extended language support>
Walk her through this on the 'phone. You can go into the Library:Fonts and the System:Library:Fonts and safely remove any font with a name that is in non-Roman type, and those with names like Geeza, Li, Hai and similar. Toss 'em into another folder or outright trash them. Then restart and try again.
Cocktail might not be the right tool to put in the hands of a 2 month new Mac user. A support problem is, you don't have any idea what she did to the machine with Cocktail.
Also stress to Sis that she should not move or rename any unfamiliar sounding folders or files - she could do damage to the OS.
If she continues to have problems, Archive and Install with OSX would not be bad, followed by reinstall of Office and the Apple and Microsoft updates.
Thanks
Trevor

Thats basically what Charlie said on his twitter, which is that the exploit doesn't work on 4.3
No the website that the guy was kind enough to provide says something a little more subtle. And if that source is reliable, Apple ought to release 4.3.1. It says the exploit itself fails, but the vulnerability still remains, whatever that means. My guess is they are suggested the exploit could be updated to work on 4.3. The threat is not been permanently closed.

The only thing I can think of is that your iPod (or, not likely, iCal) is stuck on a wrong timezone (there are some half timezones), but it seems like a long shot...

I can't handle this.
iPad 2 without jailbreak, suuuuuuuucks.
Yeah yeah,faster....thinner.
But with no jailbreak, im looking at my friends with the first iPad and being actually envious.
I feel like a addict. I'll kiss a man for my jailbreak.
I know people are working hard to get it done, and there is no one who appreciates their work more than I.
Bless you jailbreakers.
Jesus smiles upon you.

Is their site ironically slow or is that just me? It's not massively slow, but you'd think they'd have really fast/efficient code...

Make sure you're using iTunes 4. Anything before that doesn't support AAC files. Once you have iTunes 4, go into the preferences, under the Importing button and choose AAC. As for the track names, it's not iTunes that recognizes it or not, it's the CDDB, a database which is accessed over the internet, meaning that your computer must be connected to the internet for it to pull up track titles and such. Good luck.

As evidence that some rich people didn't earn their wealth, you just referenced Enron that went bankrupt, Madoff who went to prison, and the Banks who we bailed out... and would have otherwise gone bankrupt. So, essentially three examples where the free market either did or would have (without government intervention) correctly punished bad businesses. Odd choice.
Not really. I consider them vastly underpunished. Do you honestly think that all of the wealth that they stole went back where it belonged? How many friends, relatives, smaller investors and purveyors of luxury goods and services recieved a windfall from these criminals? The crime cannot be undone. They spread their ill-gotten gains around for some time and much of it cannot be recovered. Justice is only partially done at best.
Hardly. All I'm trying to do is better understand your position. You seem to take the position that the majority or mob rule can decide how much money to take from one person without inflicting the same on another person... in effect choosing winners and losers. Furthermore, you seem to not put any limit on this position so it would seem that you feel the majority has the right/ability to take as much money from 'the rich' as they choose to as long as they do it with a majority in the democratic process. This would imply that you don't think that the person who actually earned the wealth has any sort of moral or legal claim on the wealth. Please enlighten me as to where I am going astray in describing your position.
You love those loaded terms. If taxation is "mob rule", then we've been living under it since the 18th century. As far as "choosing" winners and losers, you seem fine with letting your vaunted "free market" do it; I happen to think that such a process is unjust if unalloyed with further means to prevent excess. The mere fact that a person makes a living and then some from the "free market" does not necessarily make them a legitimate "winner" with the strongest moral claim to all of their wealth. In fact, if you agree with the concept of taxation you already agree with this principle. Your "right" to anything is predicated on your ability to protect it, whether that be through legal processes, or through coercive force. Nothing in "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" specifically states that the top 1% of this nation ought own 50% of the wealth.
You are ignoring my point about how small cabals of wealthy and powerful people pay lip service to democracy and then do whatever they want - how is this somehow less of an injustice than the rest of us raising taxes on your beloved billionaires? Especially when you aren't one of them?
Finally, just because you have a legal or moral claim to wealth or property does not mean that you are the only person with a claim, or that your claim is the strongest. All Americans have a very strong moral and legal claim to being able to earn a living - but as wealth increases the moral claim weakens, to the point that the wealthiest people maintain much of their wealth not through any moral right but simply through their own ability to hang on to it. Your first dollar is very much yours - but your ten millionth is up for some debate.

Well, I used disk utilities and it won't find hard drive. No where in the system it shows the hard drive. I'm going to use an install disc and see if it finds it.
If I reformat drive with MacDrive, will it be easier???
You can format it with mac drive is all else fails. Also make sure its connected correctly (Master. Slave, etc.)

This is weird...I've been using Google's DNS servers basically - which are considered as the fastest in my area - does that really affect Apple downloads?
I don't know whether it affects Apple or not but I remember reading about it here in NZ where people were being directed to US servers instead of NZ ones. The speed difference between our domestic and international bandwidth is huge.

Based on the above drawings, this would be a disaster.
The interface is now clunky, crowded and unintuitive.
Biggest problem- take a look-it will require two hands to operate, thereby negating what every one else has been trying to imitate-the ease of use of the iPod scroll wheel.
Do you think Apple would include exact specs/layout/design in a patent application? The illustrations included are to convey the function ONLY. Not meant to represent their industrial design. Apple has filed a gazillion applications for patents. Some never see the light of day and NONE of them (that include illustrations) give any real visual clues to final designs.
That said, we all know Apple will put out something that looks and functions very well. It's what they do. I'm just hoping they do it in time for the holidays shopping season.

Tired of Apple's locked ecosystem
Switching to Android.
I travel to China half of the year, I NEED and unlocked phone so that i can pop in my Chinese SIM card when i'm there.
iPhone is just not for me.
FU Apple.... so much for Freedom in the US.
You can buy factory unlocked on the Swiss Apple Online-store (maybe in other countries too)
