No- it just means that people with no regard for the law will have that capability, while you won't.

Sorry, but that doesn't make sense to me Lee.

Fewer guns would mean fewer guns for everybody.

    Cool..happy birthday...

    great OS

I vividly remember the advent of OS X. I naively thought it was just another operating system update. But it seemed to arrive ... slowly. VERY slowly. And so I avoided it: I loved 9. It was great! It was about a year before I adopted X and I was not happy with it. It was clunky and incomplete. It was a long time before it dawned on me that I was in a new and better world. Little did I know that it was what would turn my IRA into a gold mine, as well as turning my computer into a marvel. God bless Steve Jobs! Cheers, Dick Henry

Not gonna happen. Apple will let you watch in the living room, it will just be via wireless streaming.

Damn! It would've given them the edge over Amazons 'unbox' thing and made them seem fairer... Ah well...

As long as there are no big 'WARNING' screens that you can't skip through like on a DVD disc....

Anyone else hate the ugly purple square around the arrows? What purpose do they serve?

I do think there should only be "ups", but the icon could be a checkmark. When you click it some subtext would appear below/next to it. Something like "You liked this comment" or "You agree with comment" or "This comment was helpful".

Probably the first of the 3 suggestions is best, because it covers much broader scenarios. Additionally you could also break it down into different buttons like a "agree" button and a "helpful" button, but maybe we want to just keep it simple.

Also, I still think it would be good to accrue the number of "likes", "agrees", or "helpful", or whatever it would be to help the member obtain different statuses.

As I'm thinking about it, it may also be beneficial to weigh in the percentage of "liked" comments in addition to the amount. For Example, a person with 20,000 comments may have 500 likes, and a person with 50 comments could have the same 500 likes, but clearly the second person typically produces better comments and that should be considered accordingly. Of course this may be slightly difficult to factor exactly how to do it, especially when you consider that people have been using this site for years and already have accrued thounsands of posts. (perhaps this system of "percentages" would only apply to new posts after this system was in place)

Just spitballing here. am I out of line?

so true. I wonder if the new iPod's will have a longer battery life, god I'd hope so with Movies and their lengths.. if not, there goes the whole legal electronic Movie business, haha, or at least for Apple.. until they then provide longer battery life. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

btw, I'm also (located) in MI.

That guy was an orphan who made himself into a billionaire with no help from anyone. Until you can do the same he has every reason to be smug.

Even Bill Gates, for what it is worth, grew up in a nice sheltered family with rich parents.

Apparently the market was not excited about it.
Down $30+ a share since early Jan.
Oh well, 6 years until I retire, I'll hope to see it bounce back (heh heh)

    Forgive me if these two points have been mentioned as I didn't read the whole thread, but;

From what I'm hearing, the cell chip in the iPhone is capable of working on upgraded networks. Now, I don't know what that means as far as LTE goes because I haven't bothered to research it, but I do that it's based off of 3g (long term evolution). This may render the iPhone capable of using that network with no hardware specific changes. If anything, Apple may have to offer different firmwares per carrier.

The other point though, which is the most interesting to me in that it's so important and no one ever really mentions it, is that Verizon's network doesn't multitask. How ironic that the phone which was continuously bashed for not having multitasking in the OS was one of the only phones on the market that could multitask on the network. I'm gonna go out on a hunch here and say that Apple will NOT release an iPhone on a network that doesn't allow for calling and web browsing at the same time. Especially after they've worked so hard on getting application multitasking to work the way they wanted to. Apparently, the LTE network is supposed to take care of this, but we'll have to wait and see.

    Lastly, Happy New Year everyone!

It's certainly possible that the next version of iLife that will ship with Lion-based Macs will be ad supported and provide a link to MAS to get rid of the ads, but we aren't there yet. ;)

    B

I hope that never happens. Ad support apps on mobiles is fine. PCs, I think, is going too far.

No, self refers to the instance of the object that is executing the currently running code. It is highly context dependant.

Inside a method of your view controller, yes, self refers to your view controller. Inside a method in your view object, self refers to the view object. Inside the NSTimer object, self refers to the NSTimer.

Yes, that's what I though.. I was asked the meaning of "target", so I gave an example that target:self in NSTimer refer to the timer object (one of my quiz questions), but I can't remember his name.. said that "self" refer to the controller even inside the NSTimer. That's why I said.. interesting, I mean.. all of you should know what your talking about a lot more than me. (specially Master balamw)

About the timer and how it's going... well, I really don't have time to continue to make it work, so I have postpone it for a later update. I just need to learn more about it to fix it. But hey, If you feel like giving the answer, go ahead.

The only thing that I'm missing is to restart the Timer (or use another one). Invalidating my Timer only pauses it, even = nil or releasing it, my Timer just continues where it left.

I have found a tutorial where you can start, stop and reset a timer, I could use that, but I want a datePicker to select time and the tutorial doesn't show that. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jmTQi98vec&feature=related

Please, let me know if you need more code of the timer. I think I have share all of it.

balamw;12474773]By this point I would have expected Nekbeth to have called us "Nazis" instead of "Pros" in order to satisfy Godwin's Law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law).

Why are people rating this news as negative? It seems like a decent update to a good program, and it's free for existing Aperture users. What were you expecting?

Well, the difference there is that Microsoft used Engadget and others as part of their marketing campaign - "leaking" product information and photos to them to try and drum up interest. They did the same thing before with their "leaks" of Origami to try and build up hype. Of course, Zune seems to have gained more traction than UMPC (perhaps because the Zune is basically using a model that has been proven successful by the iPod).

Apple on the other hand just doesn't seem to leak product information ahead of time any more, and they also don't seem to need to do that kind of thing to generate hype and excitement for their products.

    -Zadillo
But apple doesn't need to drum up any excitement for the products, leaking just makes people think.. wow.. thats really nice (10 seconds later) yeah seen it, boring! So apple doesnt leak much makes everyone think hmm i wonder what apple has in store for us next.. could it be a ipod the size of my house or whatever. The way apple deal with there products is the way they create these communities.

As an Apple user, I'm thrilled that I'm not afflicted with the need to put down Windows in order to boost my ego.

I never quite understood what made people do this. I'm buying my first Mac, some of my friends already have one, and I told them I was going to dual-boot Windows 7.

Their reaction? Fanboy outcries. Invalid arguments about Windows, and how it's "trash", while I'm absolutely sure that they haven't touched Windows since XP, or Vista. I can't stand people like that.

MW2's plot wasn't too ludicrous. You infiltrate a Russian terrorist cell, you're commanding officer betrays you, starts a war between the US and Russia. The only ludicrous part that I can remember is a nuke blowing apart the ISS.

Mowing down thousands of civilians for now reason.
Getting killed in the second mission.

I got to Fevala and then gave up on that piece...

I never saw the light till 10.4.

On March 24, the iMac was less than three years old, the iPod was still more than six months away, and Macs ran at astounding speeds of up to 733MHz. But most importantly, Apple on that day released the first official version of Mac OS X, changing the future of its platform forever. My Dell Dimension 4100 from April 2001 was running a 933MHz PIII. Not sure how fast it was compared to a G3.

Finally, a Verizon commercial that I like!

    +1

Clever on their part. Perhaps AT&T will get a clue, or perhaps Verizon is just asking to get the iPhone handed to them. ;)

Mobile ADs! It is pretty distinctive because 20% of consumer will open an email ad meanwhile 97% will view a mobile ad. Such a big contrast!
