That's not what the author says in the article!

I guess the author only thinks he is correct ... I do not, IMO the future demand for oil will decline

I'll match that with Who Killed The Electric Car (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Killed_the_Electric_Car%3F), and why. ;)

Where would we be today, if the lawmakers had not relented on the Clean Air Standards at that time, and the EV1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1) had continued to develop?

I've worked for a struggling electric car company in the late 2000's, and that was in Europe where fuel prices are really high. I don't think there was any business to be made selling EVs in the 90's in the US. Can you really hold a company accountable for backing out of a money-losing venture? Nobody else was doing it, and even now, with batteries that can hold about 4 times as much energy per kg as the first EV1's batteries, it's not exactly straightforward for GM or Nissan to make a business case for these vehicles. I'll happily blame the oil companies, the government, and the buying public for killing off EVs, but I don't blame any of the car companies. Like I said, you can't just mandate that a certain type of vehicle be made, you have to include incentives to make people actually want to buy these vehicles. I'm knee deep in the technology, and I'm a huge proponent of it, but I don't have any delusions about it being a perfect technology that's only being held back by conspiracies. Based on the current cost of fuel, EVs just aren't attractive enough. This was much more so when GM and Toyota discontinued their EVs in the 90's.

Probably the most gorgeous laptop I've ever seen.

I'm still having a "2011 MBP Hangover" from that mock pic and rumor run-up to the release...

....and still haven't bought one yet.

I sure a $@&$ would have if they were Liquid Metal or CF (and included the rumored SSD OS).

REALLY hoping they go with a new case for 2012 (or later 2011) refresh....provided i don't buy one before then.

Conceptually, this is much cooler than it appears to be. What Apple has done is much more than listed a few new(?) input devices, because:

    1) They have actually identified the lowest common denominator for most super-popular gizmos today a base unit for computers, cell phones, iPods, remote controls, game controllers, PSP:s etc. , and

    2) They have shown that they can produce such base units (of different sizes and shapes), and leave the rest as cheap and customizable add-ons.

This is taking a mathematical mode of procedure and applying it to product development, and it's brilliant. Maybe there won't be any direct gizmo-spawning out of this, but surely there will be lots of indirect advancements in current product lines.

Conceptually from this perspective it is true. Its phenomenal manufacturing innovation if they can set it up like this. It would result in a shift in how people purchase and use electronics. However, mechanically it seems a much more inneficeint way of creating flexibility that people won't use more than once a week.

The Zune is doomed if this is actually true. Not sure I believe it though. Mind you it might be good if it's wireless and will partner the "iTV". Could be an interesting combo. Perpendicular 1.8" drive etc etc.

Edit: "true" video as in it has a really big drive and is widescreen.

Kind of looks like America is an empire, doesn't it? America has a military presence all around the world. That's like Rome who had a military presence all around the then known world. At the beginning of 2000, America was so powerful and had so much money under Bill Clinton's control, that if it wanted to, they could have taken over the whole world.

If your point is that the US is overdeployed and has a military presence in countries it certainly has no place being, that is well-taken.

That said, there is a difference in "ruling" a territory (as I take the definition you quoted to mean) and simply having boots on the ground.

hoping they upgrade the rest of the suite. I've got Studio 2 since I got it with an EDU discount and couldn't upgrade it, but I love having it in the same program set from start to finish; everything from Motion to FCP to color to DVD Studio Pro and compressor. I use it all as part of my workflow. it would suck to upgrade only one component and leave the rest sitting dusty on the shelf.

I fork over $175/mo to them for dropped calls and shoddy 3G service. I leave my phone on EDGE at all times, that's how great their network is.

    Uhh..Then STOP.

    What a 'disgusting' whine.

I hate to say it but...

everything (yes, including safari) seems snappier. Yeah yea, I know an EFI update shouldn't affect other things but hey, I'm not complaining. And no, I'm not noticing a speed increase due to restarting the computer. I do that at least once a day (usually) to hop into windows for stuff. One quick question; my startup "dong" hasn't been happening for a couple of days. Any ideas on why?

The image shows a laptop, but why would this be limited to just laptop applications? This would be in interesting way to give that touch screen tablet Mac additional flexibility. This is a really cool idea, but I am going to wait to see how it is executed.

Has anyone tried it on a Core2Duo+320m machine yet, such as a unibody Mac mini? I don't playing in a lower resolution if I can get at least 30 FPS.

Going to buy it soon, so I hope I can tell it soon. I think to run the game smooth most of the settings should be put around medium on a Mac mini. And I hope there is going to be cake!

It's amazing that whatever happens, on this site, it's *never* Apple's fault.

Heck, Apple could be killing innocent children, and peeps on here would blame the children.

Well I'm a pro user and i welcome the new FCP and it's price.
I have a decent budget since I work for a corporation.
If I lost my job or decided to go on my own, $299 would make it easier to deal with than a seat with Avid.
Ive had the luxury of having full support with Avid since 2001 plus Digidesign and Autodesk/Alias Maya totaling at roughly 6k per year.
If anyone thinks that Apple is dropping the price to get out of the pro biz then maybe it's time to try something else.

getting the option to rent movies on itunes will be great. hell even to rent with a burn to disc option would be even better.

Burn to DVD would definitely be a nice option, but I usually just hook my iPod to my TV (http://podophile.com/2006/08/16/watch-ipod-videos-on-your-tv/) with the $19 AV cable. I wouldn't be too surprised if Apple initially pushes this option over DVD burning.

750 GB... that is just insane, especially for a consumer Mac! :D Apple is getting nicer and nicer when it comes to offering more configuration options.
