Do you have a link that explains this more. I would like to check it out before offering an opinion. I don't see anything about it on Google's site. Thanks.

It does raise the bar for other manufacturers, but this isn't the portable media player market. In business you either have to be the first, or the cheapest (neither applies to iPhone), simply being the best doesn't cut it. Apple and its devotees have argued for ages that MacOS is so superior to Windows it's ridiculous, but they've never managed to even put a dent in Microsoft's market share.

With the iPod Apple was able to hog 60% of the market before the competition even woke up, but here they're up against Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola, Siemens, Blackberry, Palm/Treo, HP and a bunch of other giants with well established distribution channels and deals with every carrier on earth. I hope for Apple's sake they've patented the crap out of this thing because the first SonyEricsson iPhone killer is probably being designed as we speak.

You're right this isn't the portable media market - those devices are primitive compared to what's being offered here and yet the heavy weights were NEVER able to even dent THAT market. You would think the likes of SONY, HP MOTOROLA, M$SOFT and all the other consumer electronics giants, with all of their resources, could come up with something smart enough to compete with the iPod over the years, right? Wrong! The iPod was revolutionary in its design and usability (and not the first portable media device by the way). Paired with the best online music store experience distanced it even further from the rest. That's what revolutionary means: a new playing field - a new system - a new product. Apple does this better than anyone in the world. I'm not sure the competition is just Nokia, SonyEricsson, and Motorola any more. Listen closely, Apple is attempting to reinvent the mobile phone by marrying what we traditionally associate with a smartphone (smartERphone actually) under a totally new "human friendly" and intuitive package. Those things tend to have mass appeal.

If it ends up just being yet another slick mobile smartphone then yes, the competition will be a bear. On the other hand, if the mobile connectivity paradigm is changing as Apple wants it to, then its an (almost) level playing field again. Some may even argue that Apple has another head start on some of those technologies (mobile OS X for one - the best desktop OS now the best mobile OS)

In the end, we all win. Competition is great. So lets just sit back, watch the race and hope the world doesn't meltdown before we can play with all of these toys.

If you are commenting on what you do, then its people like you that make the studios demand limits on legitimate customers like me.

Imagine buying a car but the manufacturer keeping the wheels when you are not using it. Its stops car theft, but its a pain in the ass for the user.

It's cool, but totally pointless other than being used as a tech demo.

I fully expect that the control will not be fine enough on the layers / brushes, etc to be acceptable for commercial or even personal use. It's hard enough to select and erase layer parts when using a WACOM tablet on a PC or Mac... Now we do the same thing with fingerpaint precision....

There are already quite a few VERY good paint/editing apps on iOS that support layers. And quite a few people doing amazing, precise freehand work. Zoom helps! And touching your work directly removes a creative barrier. Compared to looking one place and moving your hand someplace else (Wacom or mouse; although people adapt well to those too).

Desktops/laptops won’t go away, but the iPad is ALREADY being used for serious production, and that will only grow as multitasking (the new gestures) and file management/sharing (wireless and painless?) catch up. iOS is still young!

The way I look at the iPad for serious creative work is that current apps typically offer 1/4 of the full power of a desktop app... and most of us only use 1/20 of that power anyway! So find the app that has the tools you need... or find several apps! And what makes up for that limited power? Much greater ease and convenience. You’ll still use your desktop Photoshop (etc.) as well, but an iPad in the production mix can be a great tool. (And an iPad plus a ton of great creative apps costs less than many single desktop programs!)

My tiny-screen iPhone already had a role in my creative production work. That will only grow (literally) with a bigger screen!

I’d love to see more offerings from Adobe. (I actually really like Adobe Ideas on iPhone. It’s a vector program of sorts with a paint program UI. Images zoom sharply to any size when exported as PDF.)

You mean Clinton who was actively engaged in multiple attempts to kill Binladen pre-911? An activity that Bush canceled after he was elected?

Your right we should follow the example of the president who allowed 911 to happen. Then failed to accomplish the task of killing him while also driving us into debt revoking our civil liberties and allowing American's to begin torturing those they SUSPECTED had useful information.

    Maybe you should read this.

    http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_bill_clinton_pass_up_a_chance_1.html

"ets start with what everyone agrees on: In April 1996, Osama bin Laden was an official guest of the radical Islamic government of Sudan a government that had been implicated in the attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993. By 1996, with the international community treating Sudan as a pariah, the Sudanese government attempted to patch its relations with the United States. At a secret meeting in a Rosslyn, Va., hotel, the Sudanese minister of state for defense, Maj. Gen. Elfatih Erwa, met with CIA operatives, where, among other things, they discussed Osama bin Laden.

It is here that things get murky. Erwa claims that he offered to hand bin Laden over to the United States. Key American players President Bill Clinton, then-National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and Director of Counterterrorism Richard Clarke among them have testified there were no "credible offers" to hand over bin Laden. The 9/11 Commission found "no credible evidence" that Erwa had ever made such an offer. On the other hand, Lawrence Wright, in his Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Looming Tower," flatly states that Sudan did make such an offer. Wright bases his judgment on an interview with Erwa and notes that those who most prominently deny Erwa's claims were not in fact present for the meeting.
    "

As for Bush "allowing" this to happen, that is complete B.S. It happened on his watch, but he is as responsible for 9/11 as Bill Clinton was, who was as responsible for it as the Easter Bunny was...

You know, in Keynote, how it sometimes defaults to all capital letters, and even if you use shift, or caps lock, it stays that way for some reason? That's great for aesthetics, but it's keeping that through the slides.

Is there a way to turn it off? I changed the font to Helvetica and it still does it.

EDIT: Nevermind. Format > Font > Capitalization > Off

You don't pay for updates, Tweetie 1 had 7 free updates. Updates within the 2.0 version number will also be free. Same as EVERY piece of software for the desktop.

exactly - people don't realize this yet with iphone apps because it's still relatively new and most apps get minor updates for free - very few have done a complete version revision of their software. probably over the next year, this will become more common and people will figure this out and quite whining.

but then again...people love to complain...but over $3 - seriously come on people...

I think there should be firm standards for capital punishment. There are certain cases where someone is guilty without a doubt. The connecticut incident, arizona killer, etc. There are many cases where the death penalty is appropriate. If it's a crime with no witnesses but a lot of solid proof, the sentence should be life in prison. See, there's ways around all these "whats ifs".

Nah, i took my adderal today, does wonders i must say.

Because an innocent person is being killed (usually). Yes i know it has happened in the past with the death penalty, which is why i only support the death penalty in cases where there is no possible chance of innocence.

If there is any question as to whether or not their guilty, then they're not supposed to be convicted. Ever hear of the term "guilty beyond a reasonable doubt"? If there is any doubt at all, the jury is instructed to find them not guilty. Theoretically, every person who is convicted of murder should be guilty "without a doubt" or with "no possible chance of innocence". But that isn't always the case because even people who are convicted and "guilty beyond a reasonable doubt" are exonerated because the prosecution or jury screwed up or new evidence surfaced.
