Yeah, I can see that's where the majority of Apple's profit this last quarter came from. $546,000,000.
By your estimate, that's less than one tenth of one percent (<0.1%) of Apple's profits. Hardly a cash cow. Even if you underestimated by a full magnitude, it's not that impressive.
$1.8 mil/year may seem like alot to you or me that makes less than $50k/year, but to a company that does over $15,000,000,000.00 in sales a year it's little more than a drop in the bucket.
I did not say they were making a half cent on each sell, i said I could only dream of pocketing a half cent on each sell personally. I an not such an idiot to think 1.8 mil annually is enough for a company with $10 Billion in cash reserves to to be interested in . The point I was attempting to make, is small numbers with big multipliers are IMPORTANT and a revenue stream of greater importance than acknowledged. Further to my point it has been acknowledged by Jobs and his critics that the reason the iPod is a huge is because it is part of a complete system. Loose iTunes and you loose the dominance of the iPod, just ask the folks at Creative. Pennies on the dollar, or dimes on the dollar, iTunes is a big business supporting a much bigger business. Remember before iTunes and the iPod you could not shut the Apple doom sayers up and Apple stock was something someone making $50K a year could buy without dipping into the savings account. Apple wasn't a player in the personal electronics business either.

"Error occurred during installation please try again" doesn't necessarily indicate there is anything wrong with your machine. I have received a similar message whilst running Software Update and the problem was with the network.

I've got this one from Amazon. $20. Mine is clear, so from afar you can't even tell the Air has a shell case until you get a bit closer. Also adds very minimal weight/bulk to the Air (looks very similar to the Speck case you linked to).

I enjoyed this post immensely as well. As someone in the chemical/nuclear engineering industry, my clients always gripe and complain about corporate greed when big bad oil makes $10 billion in profit in a quarter, but when Apple does it everyone sings their praises as their money goes right into Steve Jobs's bank account and talks about how great it is that the money they've worked for sits somewhere cross-country in the form of numbers on paper.

And if my money is going to line someone's pockets, I'd rather it be someone who returns the favor by making my life more enjoyable rather than someone who will gouge me for a natural resource I need to transport me to the job to earn the money to pay for that natural resource, exploiting every war and rumor of war to charge me ever more for the privilege.

I'd like to get a new 17" MBP and I'm wondering what the verdict is on SSD's... are third-party drives still a better option than the ones that come stock from Apple? If so, which brand/model is best? Also, what's the status with TRIM support and garbage collection in all this? Does Apple's current OS/hardware have either of these yet? If not, will Lion have TRIM support?

I gave the song two stars. I liked the intro, but once the vocals kicked in, I was lost. I'm not a fan of metal, not at all. Again, I really liked the intro, just very much not the singing. (Is that even singing?)

Well that's kinda hypocritical posting in an Apple forum. Apple tries 100x harder to prevent users from jailbreaking than Android\Manufacturers do try to prevent rooting\modding.
i agree they do seem to try harder. i dont think of it as me being hypocritical ( or maybe it is? :) ). i just hold android to a higher standard... it's supposed to be about openness... that's what i feel google intended. if i'm going to get one (which i probably will eventually) i want to be able to do what i want with it without the manufacturer/provider on my back

If you have spare $99 bugs, I'd say go for it.
Otherwise: NO.
That's the bottom line. You're dropping a c-note on a developer preview. If you want spend that much money to play around with go for it. In the past (except for SL) upgrades were costing around 125 so in theory you could save some money if apple follows that path. If they don't, you run the potential of over-paying for the OS

Simply measure the amount of volts it uses while folding with a physical electrical meter, (I don't know if there are any programs that can actually measure electrical output) And see how much your electricity bill charges you. Folding DOES cause an increase in electricity usage, so if I were you, I wouldn't do it.
