Right now I can buy 8 gigs of PNY RAM (4gb x 2) for $50 on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=u999238t2878689f9fp0dd0c0s701&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16820178335 , Coupon Code: "NEWGEEK10" for new customers) but I've read some mixed reviews. Anyone have personal experience with PNY RAM or can recommend a better brand to buy from? I'm new to installing RAM.

Yeah, Thunderbolt and Sandy Bridge and I am in.
^^^^ This!
Why, what can you use the TB port with today?
It means in the near future I'd be able get high speed disk transfers via a large external drive (or disk array) while still having a small, portable 13" MBA.
Why not future proof it?

Question(s)-
My brand new 12" ibook G4 seems to make a lot of hard drive noise, even when I'm not doing anything. The noises sound pretty healthy- it's basically a constant, very soft whir (just the spinning, I'm sure) and an occasional clicking (not a "crap, I'm broken" clicking, but more like a "alright, let's kick these heads into place" clicking) every minute or so (sometimes longer).
I'm not trying to be goofy with my descriptions here, but after all I've read in these forums about clicking being bad, I wanted to mention that none of the noises mine are making sound deadly. Rather, I was thinking that maybe this is Spotlight's regularly scheduled indexing? If that's maybe what this is, does anyone know of a way to regulate Spotlight's indexing (make it less frequent or turn it off altogether unless you ask it to) in order to lessen hard drive access and in turn perhaps save battery life?
Any opinions that point to a faulty hard drive are also welcome, but I've had the ibook for a week now and have experienced no problems outside of both the hard drive and optical drive being noisier than I would have liked (seems like a common issue with these ibooks). The hard drive noises remind me of when my imac's hard drive kicks in from or settles down to a rest.
Thanks!

You are basically moving the bandwidth requirements to another server. It depends on what the second host allows.

A bunch of Microsoft's Zune "engineers" (which train do you drive?) live in my building. They're complete jerks, and aggressively vulgar toward anyone they see with an iPod.
I hope they enjoy listening to their precious Zunes while standing in line at the unemployment office.
DIAF, boys and girls.

I've had T-Mob for three years now, and several benefits are: 1 year contracts, free phone upgrades after a year, GSM technology, unlocked phones on request after a year, overseas roaming, very competitive plans, including family plans, good major market coverage, all-local-all-the-time calls (no roaming, no long distance,) $.05/minute calls to Mexico and Canada - that's cheap, folks! And, voice transmission quality with my Moto V190/V360 series phones has been crystal clear with 1 bar or more signal strength. On the customer service side... other than the stupid initial computer generated person you have to get past, once you're dealing with a real person I find the service to be 1st class, and I've had a few discussions at length with extremely knowledgeable and informally pleasant cust. serv. agents.
Of course, in rural areas, the service is definately more spotty, and at times non-available... but I just wait a few minutes and I'm usually back in range. Somebody said the voice mail at T-Mob wasn't customizable, whatever that means..?? but certainly you can change and record your own message just like with any other service, and I see no difference there.
On the towers, well, T-Mob builds their own towers, and has some kind of mutual agreement with Cingular (formerly AT&T GSM) to use their towers for roaming, and vice versa. Fairly invisible to end users. In fact, I submitted our property on the Oregon coast to t-mobilelandlords.com for consideration as a new tower location. Bottom line: other than the lesser coverage areas compared to Verizon, there's not a thing wrong with my servicel, or the phones they provide. And with my two older phones, when I'm going out to do something physically risky, I just slip my SIM card out of my new phone, and put it in my older Nokia in case it falls in the river. All my phone numbers are duplicated on my new phone's internal memory as well as the SIM, so it's nice having a spare/backup couple of phones in the drawer. Try that with CDMA.
By the way, if you see more 11 yr olds w/ T-Mob phones, it's probably because their parents saw it as a cheaper family plan alternative to the competition. I doubt the kids made the decisions. Can you hear me now?
Now, come on Apple. I'm waiting!

I am new here so if this is the wrong spot feel free to let me know.
First, I want to let you know me as a mac user.
Desktop: I have a 24 inch iMac (the first version to have 3.0) that I operate with apple's wireless keyboard, and the magic trackpad (I have a magic mouse also)
Laptop: I have a 15inch brand spanking new Sandy Bridge/Thunderbold MacBookPro. I got it the day it came out in February and I couldn't be happier with it.
Mobile: I have a 16GB Black iPhone 4. I also have a 32GB Wi-FI only Black iPad 2.
Accessiories: I have a mophie case for my iPhone and love it. I have AppleTV. The black leather smart cover. The iPad camer connection, the new HDMI adapter for iPad and others.
Anyway, that is me the mac addict.
My younger brother just got a brand new 13inch MacBookAir and has a June of 2009 MacBookPro that he wants tom find a good home for at a fair price. Is there a place where Macs are traded and sold on this forum? I don't want to post if it is frowned upon oor not part of what is done here.
Thanks,

How about $30/year and you get email, ftp, mysql and php?

Thanks! Thats pretty good value for money. I just thought someone out there would offer (really) cheap web hosting for non-for-profit orgs etc... I guess im naive.

Has it been four years already?
I had dropped off my oldest at school, and was on my way to drop off my then youngest at daycare. I decided to turn on the radio and found out that the first tower was on fire. What a horrible day that I'll never forget.

The screen wheel protection has to count for something doesn't it. I kind of think they are kinda cool, someone please agree!!!
Fine Im outta here. :o
I agree... even if they were ugly as sin (which I dont think they are) the protection of them is great.... have on of these on from day 1, and your iPod will never scratch. A great buy I would say.

I just hope that iWork is mature enough by then to handle the office needs of some users.
I'm sure that it will be. Remember that Microsoft has recently signed a contract to continue developing Mac Office for the next five years, and that maybe part of the agreement was that Apple would keep iWorks 'underpowered.' But with the 'Numbers' and 'Charts' trademarks, do you not think that maybe iWorks '07 might replace Appleworks, which is no longer supplied with new Macs? A more mature Pages and Keynote plus some kind of spreadsheet app would be fine for the majority of users.

Well there aren't really many other stores on the high street that have entire glass fronts. Most of them have roller shutters, at least where I am. Maybe that's something they might have to introduce. Bit ugly but will discourage robberies!

Wrong way round - it's userland, therefore WILL be tethered. See explanation here:
http://bit.ly/gN060d
actually, there are untethered userland jailbreaks. Look at the jailbreakme.com exploit from 4.0 / 4.0.1 for the iPhone 4.
