The day the iPhone was introduced, the Smartphone Market became an iPhone-alike Market, and to produce an iPhone-alike phone, you need access to Apple's patents. That's what Nokia is after, or else it's dead. Making-out with Microsoft doesn't give Nokia everything it needs, and leaves it open to litigation: they say that attack is the best form of defence, so Nokia is just doing what it thinks it needs to do to survive.

I have relatives living in various 3rd-world countries, and even the less-well-off wouldn't buy a 3GS, but they are willing to pay top dollar (or the local eq) for the iPhone4.

Tanker-loads of Nokia faithful are dumping their Nokia phones for iPhones and Blackberrys -- even Android has a long fight ahead of it in these (non-geek/techy) markets.

I rarely have anything good to say about AT&T, but this app sounds like a potentially good use of crowdsourcing. The question, of course, is: will this incoming feedback actually be reviewed and acted upon by AT&T, or is this effort primarily to create the "illusion of responsiveness" and make us all just feel better.

I tried it out at the store. There's like a .5 second delay in registering your movement. So it doesn't seem to work too great with twitch gaming as you have to anticipate your move too much.

The fitness one is pretty cool though since it doesn't really matter than much. Didn't get to try dancing, and didn't see anyone do that either since it appears everyone is too shy. But I imagine its similar to the fitness game in terms of operation.

The Playstation one is better for those twitch games imo.

i've grown to dislike reading magazines on the ipad for several reasons.

    1. Ppi of ipad too low
    2. Appification of magazines (why have an app for each?)
    3. Not passing along the cost savings saved in printing/shipping to us.

All i want is a subscription that cost less than the amazon.com price, uses a common app (e.g. Like zinio) and a screen whose ppi is near the dpi of magazines.

    +1!

    Again... this is advertising. ;)

I imagine they bought the cheapest iPad for this. $500 is nothing to pay in exchange for the advertising benefits they'll receive from a video such as this. If it results even in a handful of people buying their product they've turned that purchase into profit. Also, Apple profited from the sale (and also from the appearance of their product).

    This is the economy functioning...

I would not be surprised if apple gave them the iPad to blend. It works out to be good advertisement for everyone involved.

Hast he blinder ever failed? All the Will it Blend videos I have watch is everything blends.

It sounds like Nokia is bleeding money and needs an Apple hand-out. You can just smell the desperation.

Let me just sum this up in advance:

Apple sues someone: "They are protecting their IP/trademarks."

Someone sues Apple: "They are bleeding money and need an Apple handout" or "Patent troll"

Usually this is followed by someone with a 'shareholder' remark since they somehow believe that owning 7 shares of Apple should get them a direct line to the CEO.

Ut-oh, I'm not conforming to the groupthink... here comes about 40 'hater' comments.

    Super basic.

    Better exception handling in Finder.

When you copy files and some already exist, rather than terminating the action with no clue what was the hold-up, complete it with a list of exceptions for dealing with as a separate matter.

There are other examples of where exception handling could be added.

Think of all the features we had under text based computers that were LOST when we went to graphical based computers, and reinstall them.

Even though many of the files are media, their names are text. :D

    Funny suggestion: Finder personalities.

That's why they're selling 2 for each person. So you can blend your iPad and still have the other one to use... ;)

while the volt doesn't look that special or great (the volt based Opel Ampera looks much much better) it isn't a ugly car

have you take a look at the Nissan Juke recently ? i saw one in on the road today and .. it's just as hideous as on pictures

Yep, people buy far uglier vehicles. Honda Accord Crosstour, Nissan Leaf and Juke, any current generation Acura, etc.

And I do find the Volt a good looking vehicle. Although, wasn't a fan of the concept....... Thank goodness it was as aerodynamic as a brick so it couldn't enter production with that front end.

As a music teacher, I think it would be a great development, but unfortunately, I don't think it would be beneficial to anybody but "Garage Bandies", and even then, I don't think it would be very useful. I would still need the full function of my regular keyboard while doing these other things.

I can't imagine have something that would truly be configurable and useful. I'm sure it would work with Garage Band and if it worked for another program, then great. The keyboard would have to be compatible with Finale and Sibelius if it was going to make an impact on the music education or composition world.

I think this is just another PATENT... don't hold your breath for this one.

Maybe, when you rank the individual product models. But when you rank the underlying platforms, iOS is no longer leading the pack. Android has taken over the lead and that was to be expected, because Google did the smart thing: Divide and rule. Everybody can build Android gadgets, but only Apple builds iOS devices. And the systems that everybody can use have ALWAYS dominated the market. Just remember Windows vs Mac OS or VHS vs Betamax and Video 2000.

Android is not a consistent platform. A huge chunk of that "market share" is running 1.6 and is not compatible with anything in the Market. What I said is true. What you said sounds like a desperate attempt to redefine winning.

Why does what you said matter. It has been true over a year and App sales on Android are still less then 10% of iOS.

PS. The Android US "market share" slipped 5% in the last quarter and the iPhone went up.

These comparison of a single device against a loose collection of largely incompatible devices is growing tiresome.
According to the IDC results, Apple have a 2.8% market share, that means 1 in 36.

There aren't more iPhones than anything else.

    You're making a lot mistakes.

You simply can not read and have no idea what you are talking about.

I made no mistakes. There is not a phone in the world that sold more then the Phone. More people bought an iPhone then any other phone. If you see someone with a phone, it is more likely an iPhone then any other kind of phone. Not more likely then all other kinds of phones.

If someone came up to you and said, I purchased a phone in the last year and Iwill give you 5 million dollars if you can guess what it is, you would say an iPhone. Unless you were a moron.

I'm kind of a newbie to the whole GSM and EV-DO thing. Which is faster EV-DO Revision A or the CINGULAR EDGE network?

IF a GSM phone or NETWORK is so slow, what good is it? E-mail? How are we going to run Mobile iChat on our new Apple iPhones if we are running on a slow network?

edge was att wireless' stop gap effort for 2G GSM. GSM is dead. EDGE was dead a few years ago. CDMA based EVDO or UMTS are minimum requirements for next generation wireless applications. Cingular has chosen UMTS and has said publicly that they have no interest in supporting 4G efforts. Verison and Sprint use EVDO for their 3G network which is faster than UMTS. I would have to hope and guess that since EVDO is becoming the 3G defacto standard apple would chose it.

Apple killed the beauty of this method with 10.4.4, when JPEG icons started to be rendered as ugly pixellated images with black borders. As far as I can tell this problem has not been addressed. So, I'm still running 10.4.3. If this page-curl materialises, and I have to use it, it will piss me off no end. It is completely pointless.

My JPEGs all look fine. No black border, crystal-clear. Perhaps you are using Graphic Converter? That generates some ugly previews but is still by far the best image conversion app I've seen.

iCal has been a disaster for 4 OS X releases now. It is, without a doubt, Apple's worse application. It's missing functionality, basic functionality, that has been in every calendaring program since 1992.

iCal is a sad example of Apple going to far to the extreme of minimization.

All I really wanted in the last 2 OS updates was a decent iCal. It's the only thing on the Mac that continually hurts my productivity.

I've learned that iCal is just the price of being a Mac guy, and I don't hope for greatness. Heck, I don't even hope for mediocrity. iCal is always going to be slow, inconsistent UI and barely usable.

iCal... ~sigh~. If only, if only. I need to send invitations to Outlook users-- but iCal refuses to do so. iCal is slow, even worse than Entourage. The interface is extremely un-Apple in that it takes up the entire screen to use effectively. Integration with Address Book and Mail is nice, though.

If you don't like iCal and it doesn't fit your needs, try something like Entourage. Maybe coming from your PC background it'll feel more at home? Part of the MS office suite. Yes I know MS ewww. But it's there
Entourage doesn't integrate with OS X well enough for me. Address Book and Mail both work great, plus are much faster. And I don't need to use Word, PowerPoint, etc. that often. Excel is something I do a fair bit of work in... but rarely. Entourage also has bad errors every once in a while, loosing files and stuff.

I love it when Google/Samsung/Sony/Motorola employees create new MacRumors accounts (join date Mar 2011) just to try to propagate garbage like this. Obviously trying to start a new antennagate. If you can't beat them in sales, try to start some bogus stories in the blogs and hope the media picks up on it.

THIS JUST IN: My iPad 2 is absolutely fine and its in my hands right now. Anybody else who really has one complaining?

Mine is fine. No bleed. I'm not sayin it does not exist, but mine is fine.
