    Just to clarify this:

This effect has a) nothing to do with the accelerometer or gyro; b) nothing to do with the effect seen in Nintendo 3DS c) nothing to do with perceiving depth.
What looks amazing on that video because it is 2D is actually a not very convincing effect. The problem is, that the display is NOT a 3D display. Don't get this wrong, there is no 3D functionality built in the iPad 2 whatsoever, so both of your eyes will see the same picture, so that you won't think that this is 3 dimensional at all.

If, however, this technique could be combined with a new display technology that works like the (pretty bad btw) display of the 3DS, BUT with some kind of moving "sweet spot", this effect could in fact trick your eyes in a very convincing way (and would be the first 3D display technology that would convince me). There are I think already patents for a display like that. I think they even are from apple.

(Sorry for the english btw, not a native speaker)

Well, it looks like google won the smartphone battles. I kinda thought it would happen, just nowhere near this fast.

We'll have to see if they can spin android success into tablet success, too. I wouldn't be surprised.

i don't think it will be live...
their servers will not be able to handle the load..

They used to do all the apple events live broadcast. The wwdc keynotes and the itunes ones.

The official word has come down from BBY corporate about 20 minutes ago. BestBuy will start their pre-sales tomorrow 6/15/10. It will be in-store only. You will fill out a form and pay a 50 dollar deposit, and then you will be given a 50 dollar BBY gift card.

Despite rumors about the shortage of the white iPhone, we will be selling all 4 different variations of the iPhone 4 on launch day. We will not be able to setup appointments to come in and purchase the phone until we actually have the stock hit the store, but that will happen within the next week.

So if I preorder one through Best Buy, I am not necessarily guaranteed to get one on launch day -- it will depend on how many come in? It is possible that there will be more preorders than the number of phones Best Buy will receive on launch day? If that is the case, is it first come, first served for picking up your preorder?

I like the part of the law that gives fines, and I think jail time to anyone forcing a woman to wear one, but if someone actually wants to wear a veil they should be allowed to do it.

    Definitely Will Happen:
•Mail and iCal updated to resemble Mobile Me
•Interface updated to resemble Mobile Me (more helvetica, less gloss)

    Would Be Nice:
•Major focus on graphics performance. Perhaps of a way for an 3D App (i.e a game) to monopolize the CPU and GPU, like in Windows.
•Dropstack and tabs in Finder, to obviate the need for Path Finder (for me)
    • New File System, whatever they started to work on after the ZFS licensing fell through.
    • Bring back the normal audio/video controls in the Finder
    • Tags
    • iChat removed from the OS. New Mac and Windows versions with FaceTime, available immediately.
    • Faster way to switch to Bootcamp in the Apple Menu (this was a feature in a beta, and they took it out.)
    • Better-looking folder icons with COLOR that stand out.
    • Resolution independence
    • Quicktime X with 7's features; Quicktime 7 gone

    Not Counting On It:
    • Editable Apple Menu, like in days of old
    • Copy and Paste in Finder
    • A better looking, flatter bottom dock without the stupid reflections (I have mine set to the 2D version now)
    • Blu-ray support

It could last up till 7pm!? That's 4am AEST! ARGH!! If there's one thing this Ashes series has done, it's exposed cricket lovers at work. They are the red-eyed, bumbling fools. :)

I only wish I'd watched the first couple of tests!

And a lingual question - why the use of the word 'prefecture' all the time? As in Chiba prefecture, why not just Chiba? Isn't it unecessary, like saying 'Caifornia state' or 'Los Angeles city/county' all the time?I believe that most if not all of the prefectures are named after their capital, so using the term helps define the difference between the city and its surrounding area.

I don't buy it. Apple creates services that help it sell more hardware. I don't see creating a Netflix competitor would help to do that.

If you go all out with an Xserve config (including a 7 TB RAID) the price tag comes just shy of $100,000.

This is a small chunk of change for a company. I have a friend who is a sys admin for a company and they have over a million dollars spent in their server hardware. It's crazy.

    Xserves, but running Linux.

Without more details I say there is an issue at your phone you should have a Genius look at.

So much for Apple dominating when Verizon gets the iphone. Android is the Microsoft of this decade and Apple is Apple again. Their greed and arrogance is going to bite them in the ass again . The writing is on the wall.

I have no problem with Office on my imac. I can't figure out how people think it can run slow. It doesn't do anything processor intensive for 99% of people. Now, Photoshop on the other hand...

Remember this is MS. They take longer to do their programming. When they brought out Mac Office X all they really did was change Office Mac 98 for OS 9 to an OS 10 native version. The upgrade din't come until Mac Office 2004. This is to insure that Mac Office trails Windows Office by some time.

This time around they're going to skip that intermediate step & convert & update at the same time. This takes time. Also they have a stated reply that they will not come out with the Universal Mac Office 2007 until 6-8 months after the Windows Office 2007 is out. They say this is to help insure compatibility between the Mac & Windows versions. Since the Mac Unit can have inter-company information about what it takes to be compatible, we must actually add several months to that time.

Adobe is following the same course. They are also rolling the change to Universal into their next scheduled upgrade.

For most things MS Office we may be better off keeping our G3, G4 or G5 Macs for those things or run MS Office under Rosetta. MS Office Mac 2007 will have many changes in looks, operation & file format. This will cause a learning curve that may scare a lot of MS Office users away from updating/upgrading to the newest version.

Unlike most Adobe User's that are waiting for an Universal Version to speed things up, Mac MS Office User's are eager for the Universal version of Office, they are not so sure about the program changes. I've used Windows Office 2007 & am not fond abut how much screen it wastes.

I swear some of these rumors are nothing but a mole hunting expedition by Steve and company to handle security leaks inside Apple. Considering some of the directors and VPs over at Apple have Intelligence Community connections, this does not surprise me one bit. Curious what those in the current IC are doing instead of these reindeer games.

then let's start something completely ridiculous and see if they react in any way. like say they're making a 7" tablet or an icar. and just see how far it actually goes.

So they wouldn't have to use Windows anymore.
