I recently discovered Pages. I think it's a great app and well worth the money...but not as a Word Processor. I use Pages as a budget version of Adobe InDesign. When I want just straight text, I stick to Word.
Excel, however, is a different matter. The line of work that I'm in has just implemented an Excel solution to help our customers fine prices on items (over 4000 items)....This relies heavily on VBA scripting to work, and I've already had some incapatibilities that if it weren't for me (as the Mac guy) wouldn't have gotten solved and left Mac users behind.
So Numbers/Lasso/Charts/whatever will likely be fairly useless to me withouth VBA. And yes, I'm aware that MS is dropping Mac support of VBA, and yes, it does make me very angry..

does it look crappy like that while you are working in word, or on the finished product? i would assume that word likes to display graphics with a little less quality than what you actually put into them. if you are talking about the finished product, then perhaps you should type your "reports, etc" in word and then get your hands on indesign and put all of your text into there.

Just out of curiosity, what do you want a new Cinema Display for, exactly, that the current ones aren't doing?
Reason I ask is because you seem pretty eager about it, but haven't really clarified your need.

thought i'd post an update here: I0n1c Gives Jailbreak Untether to iPhone Dev-Team for Release
More info here: iClarified Info (http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=14497)'
I think this is just for the iphone...but it could prove useful for the ipad too in the end...

I have the matte too. I really like it. I haven't noticed any sagging, but I have already broken one of the outer rings taking it out of my pocket. However, I like the option of switching out rings for different color options. As far as protection, I haven't tried the Otterbox, but I've dropped my phone a few times & haven't gotten as much as a scratch.
Hope this helps & good luck.

I think they removed it, but according to Andrew Welch (president of Ambrosia Software), "Everything that was free in the older, free WireTap continues to be free in WireTap Pro. You can use it to your heart's content to record AIFF recordings, and never pay for it." If you use other features, an unregistered message is dubbed over your recordings until you register.
Hey folks! Hex Monkey, could you give a link for this quote? I downloaded wiretap pro, but all the documenatation provided suggests that one can only use it for 30 days for free, regardless of what file type one's using...thanks!

Thanks for the review. You did point out that it does not cover the front camera, but it appears that it does cover the ambient light sensor. Can you please confirm?
Oh wow! Good call, I just checked and yes it does cover the light sensor...

The iPad is a direct competitor to consoles.
I plug it into my TV, grab my iPhone, and play games till I die ;)
What?
You're kidding me.
I'm sorry, I can see making the compromise of having only a touch screen for the iphone as it is more portable than the handheld games so you get advantages too with the iphone (you already are carrying it cause it's your phone as well, it's smaller and therefore more portable, the games are already loaded so no trying to either carry all the cartridges or pick what games you bring. Makes up for the lack of physical buttons).
But no way would I pick an iPad over a console for at home play.
1. The compromise of not as good controller for what advantage does the ipod have over a console? I'm not worried about portability with a console so that doesn't make up for it. So what advantage does an ipad have over a console that would get people to pick it for playing games over the console? The only advantage I could see is if you already owned the ipad. Even then I think I'd rather just buy the console extra. For me if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the console. I already have a laptop that if I had to carry something ipad around I'd rather have the laptop, I have my iphone for being with me everywhere, and a console will have better games and a better gaming experience (real controllers anyone? Games made for it are specifically aimed at people who bought the thing to play games). And even if I had an ipad, I'd still want either the Sony Playstation or the Microsoft Xbox for actual playing of more serious type games.
2. The compromise of the games just aren't as good. Sorry, but no game on the iphone/ipad compares to the stuff they make on consoles. You're still getting the compromise of making the game more for a handheld market so it's not as complex/in depth. I'd bet the games on the new Sony handheld coming out are much closer to console quality (cause that is what htey seem to be specifically aiming the device at). Plus it has buttons!!!! I'd pick that over an ipad for trying to replace my console.
Sorry, but until they make dedicated controllers for game playing for the ipad (and not touch based only ones, gotta have buttons too and a joystick) and attract more serious type games comparable to what you see on the consoles, I don't see the ipad being a big rival to consoles.

I wonder how these companies got access to Apple's database. Why doesn't Apple keep better watch on it? And couldn't Apple just find out who's been accessing the database, and not allow connections from that source anymore? This all seems shady to me.
I imagine the process goes through a carrier outside of the US because many countries and carriers offer unlocks for their iPhone customers.
Possibly. But last time I was involved with that process, IMEIs had to be sent to Apple by Fax. Carriers never had access to an Apple Database at that point. Then again, this may have changed.

The real deal on resolution independance, is that instead of the UI being made up of images, PDFs I believe, it will be drawn using vectors. so a OS can scale anything to any size, and it will never become pixalized, because it's being drawn fresh using math instead of images.
Quite simply: No. Resolution independance has nothing to do with vectors. Images in Leopard such as icons will continue to be bitmaps. Its how those vectors are scaled which is the important thing.
Note that you can already change the DPI scaling of your apps in Tiger using Quartz debug, if you want to get a preview of how resolution independance works.

Lion still lacks Expos for Safari tabs. This sucks because it only seems natural to 3-finger swipe down in fullscreen Safari to see all your tab windows (as you would in any other program). Instead you have to remember you have a tab open and move the cursor up to the top of the window to reveal them.
Am I crazy or does this seem like pretty low hanging fruit Apple should be on top of?

I agree with videocave. I use the iPhone, universal and AppleTV presets and they work great...NO ARtifacting or blocking.
Can I ask why you are creating you're own setting?
As I said Ive been playing around with the settings, converting different formats. Several times ion the standard settings a movie that was in mkv. format would not go to mp4 without lots of distortion, and the like.

I thought that this thread is about ACDs and I believe that they are primarily used other than watching broadcast tv.
There are already displays with xvYCC and it's gamut is so big that 8-bit colors will show banding. 8-bits are enough for ntsc gamut, but not bigger.
Next versions of bd / hd-dvd specs will include xvYCC and h.264 broadcasts will probably use xvYCC also in the future.
ACDs are also used a lot in professional video post production and there is need for more than 8-bit colors. Also high quality photography needs more than 8-bits. All DSLRs have had deeper color depth than 8-bits from day one.
8-bits is enough when display's real contrast ratio is about 300:1, but when we already have displays that have contrast ratio way beyond that, there is banding on a carefully profiled display. 256 brightness levels just isn't enough. That's why sdi has had 10-bits for a decade.
So there really is need for more than 8-bits with displayport or any other way. Even average consumers will notice that within a lifetime of a new ACD.
When I buy expensive high quality devices like displays, I want them to be high quality at least half of their life, not just now.
It would also be nice if the new displays would be TCO 06 compliant. The current displays are only TCO 03 compliant.

if it hasn't been said before, then I'll say it. It'll be out when its ready.
You can't rush jailbreaks, there are bugs and glitches that have to be ironed out first. Even then you'd still have to compile it into a nice neat package so idiots won't brick their idevice from not following simple directions that require more than 3 steps. Just have patience and enjoy the OFW while you still can before you jump over to the jailbreak and appreciate its offerings more...when it's released that is.
an easy way to keep up to date is to follow the normal iphone devs and hackers on twitter like geohotz, musclenerd, comex, ...i'm sure there are others, they always post updates and repost news links and such.

How about plug the ethernet straight into the iMac?
Seems really odd that both the TC and Express would have this problem at exactly the same time.
Maybe give Apple a call.
